German legend Franz Backenbauer has died.
His household informed German information company DPA : “It’s with deep disappointment that we announce that my husband and our father, Franz Beckenbauer, handed away peacefully in his sleep yesterday, Sunday, surrounded by his household.
“We ask that you just enable us to grieve in silence and chorus from asking any questions.”
Backenbauer gained the Fifa World Cup as captain of West Germany in 1974 and lifted the trophy once more as supervisor in 1990.
His dying comes a number of days after that of Brazil’s Mari Zagallo, the primary participant win the World Cup as each participant and supervisor.
Backenbauer was 78.
