Re: “Sound Transit to resume citations for passengers as it enforces fares” [Nov. 1, Local News]:

Sound Transit wants to determine a fundamental fare for ridership and implement it for all simply as all different main cities do. The present and proposed programs are completely unfair and unworkable.

Beneath the proposed system, a nonpaying rider must be confronted thrice by an envoy earlier than being cited. The chances of being confronted as soon as are low and thrice even decrease, and can drop even additional as ridership will increase. Additionally, riders challenged thrice can merely declare they’re being focused for race, gender, and so on.

The article states “it’s not unusual for riders to not have ID or refuse to offer an actual identify” and that “Sound Transit might finally take {a photograph} of people that don’t present ID.” {A photograph} file would develop and who would search these footage to search out the folks with three challenges? Then how do you problem a quotation with no identify? Would a rider refusing to be photographed be postpone the practice? Except ambassadors are highly effective sufficient to guard themselves and produce an aura of authority, they’d merely be ignored, or worse, injured attempting to implement coverage.

Taxpayers had been promised and deserve a system the place all riders pay!
