Seattle spent $770,000 on lawyer charges defending Jenny Durkan (former mayor) over the deletion of her textual content messages throughout her “Summer season of Love” when individuals had been protesting and rioting in Seattle. (“Seattle to settle whistleblower suit over texts,” Could 2, Native.)
Now a settlement with undisclosed phrases has been reached with the whistleblowers over the deletion of texts, one other value to the taxpayer. These two people misplaced their jobs as a result of they refused to go together with how Durkan’s workplace dealt with the request from information reporters on the deleted texts.
When a politician does one thing towards the regulation, they need to be held accountable and pay the settlement and lawyer charges. The taxpayers shouldn’t be held accountable to pay. The taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the invoice for her hiding/deleting the historical past of actions taken by her. There is no such thing as a private accountability for unlawful actions taken by public servants. Wrongful actions must be outdoors of the bounds of presidency (tax payers) safety.
