The Vancouver Whitecaps have free agent goalkeeper Adrían Zendejas to a contract, the Main League Soccer membership introduced Friday.
The contract runs via 2025 with a membership possibility for 2026 pending receipt of his worldwide switch certificates.
The 29-year-old from Chula Vista, Calif., spent final season with Swedish facet Skovde AIK, beginning 27 matches and conserving seven clear sheets.
He has made 136 profession skilled appearances in the USA and Sweden with 43 shutouts.
He has earlier MLS expertise with Minnesota United, Nashville SC, and Sporting Kansas Metropolis. He was on the bench for Kansas Metropolis’s 2-1 win over the New York Crimson Bulls within the 2017 U.S. Open Cup last.
Zendejas joins a goaltending crew in Vancouver that features Japanese beginning goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and homegrown ‘keepers Isaac Boehmer of Penticton, B.C., and Max Anchor of Surrey, B.C.
“Adrían has a wealth of experiences from throughout the league, has the best mentality, and brings further competitors to our goalkeeper group,” Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster mentioned in a launch. “He instantly slot in with your entire staff and we’re happy to formally welcome him to our membership and metropolis.”
The Whitecaps play the primary leg of their first-round CONCACAF Champions Cup tie with Deportivo Saprissa subsequent Thursday in Costa Rica, with the return leg on Feb. 27 in Vancouver. They kick off their MLS season Feb. 23 at Portland.
