Our Veterans Day Parade in Burlington was memorable in a number of methods. It was festive and colourful; the horses and assured mounts had been elegant; the previous and new John Deere tractors had been a delight; and the children’ participation all through the procession added hopefulness and a contagious vitality. After which there have been the native and state veteran poster placards honoring these killed in service to our nation, carried and displayed by younger and previous alike. These veterans weren’t suckers or losers!

Stakes are excessive. Our subsequent presidential election is lower than a yr away. And remaining silent is simply as a lot a political assertion as talking out. I see the USA dallying with autocracy and anti-democratic ideology — deplorable and chilling. This dalliance in authorities of the few, by the few and for the few is hogwash — disrespectful to our constitutional republic primarily based on the rules of freedom, democracy and the rule of legislation; disrespectful to all our veterans who gave their lives in service to this ultimate.

The 2024 election can be a easy selection: Democracy or autocracy. Vote like your life is dependent upon it. It does, and it’s your selection.
